5 Simple Tips to Help Take the Stress
Out of Planning a Wedding

Yayyyy, it is wedding planning time. You’ve recently become engaged and have set the date for the big day, and now you get to choose all the wonderful vendors, details and budgets to help create the wedding day of your dreams. Or, it’s wedding planning time and you are completely overwhelmed with all the decisions that need to be made. Either way . . . we wanted to share some great tips that may be helpful in providing stress-free moments that will help in the preparation stages. I’m sharing these tips, because I know first-hand what it is like to completely wreck your emotional and physical well-being while planning a wedding, and I wish I could go back and do these 5 simple things in the planning stages to make my ultimate memories of the entire day far better, instead of enduring the mayhem that we did. Not only have I (Kelly) planned my own wedding many years ago, but in 2019 I also helped plan my daughter’s wedding. Take it from me . . . you’ll want to initiate the next 5 steps into your life, to take the stress out of your wedding planning.

1. Learn To Use This One Little Word

Planning a wedding is exciting and fun but it can also be one of the busiest times of your life. If you don’t want to end up being a nervous wreck a week before your big day, learn to prioritize and say the word “NO” to any new commitments that would take away from other important wedding-related tasks. It’s really ok to say no every now and then. Take time out to take care of you by establishing good boundaries regarding your time, as well as daily or weekly routines of rest and recuperation in between. Whether it is turning off your cell phone for a specific amount of time, or taking a long relaxing bath before bedtime. Self care is essential for being able to be your best on the days when difficult decisions have to be made, so keeping minimal distractions and stress-inducers at bay, as well as protecting your schedule, will help you remain at peace during the next few months of planning and preparing for one of the biggest days of your life.

2.    Become The Queen Of Organization

The more organized you are, the better your wedding planning experience will be. Keep a digital copy of all of your important documents, contracts and information IN ONE FILE or FOLDER on your computer, or physically, so that you can easily refer back to them when you need to. If you want to be able to bring important documents along to meetings with vendors, you can always create a wedding binder that contains all of the information you need. Plus it makes for a great backup copy too.

3.    Have A Little Fun

There’s no need for you to be a frazzled bride. Take out your calendar and schedule a few fun days in-between all of your planning. Make fun and laughter a priority in the weeks leading up to your wedding. Sometimes it’s important to come back down to earth and remember why you’re choosing to marry your partner and that trying to control every single aspect of your day is only going to leave you wishing it was over. Go out and enjoy an afternoon with the girls where you don’t talk about the wedding at all. This goes along with Number 1 on our list, and if you think this is a pattern within this blog . . . it absolutely is! Remaining in a place of peace, or learning how to get into one will help you experience the joys during this time of your life, instead of remembering it as a time full of stress and distress.

4.    Move Your Body & Eat Nutritious Foods

Exercise does wonders when you’ve got a lot on your plate and just need to take a breather and focus on your health. This doesn’t mean that you need to schedule in an hour at the gym every day either. If you’re strapped for time, a simple 15-20 minute walk or yoga session will make all the difference to your stress and energy levels. Also, it is super easy to grab junk food and fast food because you so exhausted from the endless wedding errands, so think about pre-making healthy meals & snacks that you can grab and take with you wherever you need to be.

5.    Communicate With Love

Wedding planning can sometimes wreak havoc on relationships, especially those you are closest to. Everyone has expectations regarding how your wedding day should be and many are not afraid to make those expectations known to you. Going back to number 1 . . . it is okay to say NO! Although doing it can be tricky. Make sure you always communicate effectively with the ones you love, by using the T.H.I.N.K method before you say anything you may regret: Is it TRUE? Is it HELPFUL? Is it INSPIRING? Is it NECESSARY? And is it KIND? Ask yourself these questions before replying or communicating during this time, because emotions can be strong in the planning process. Sometimes it is okay to say, “Hey, can I get back to you on that?! And feel free to take a few hours or days to pray, meditate or calm your spirit before answering.
